Working Together to Support City Harvest in NYC

This article was published on May 26, 2020

Thank you to our partner NewVoiceMedia for participating with salesforce.com at the recent City Harvest Mobile Market event at St Mary’s Community Center in the Bronx.

Together we had 20 volunteers and distributed groceries to over 400 people on a hot morning at the end of August. We bagged up and handed out an amazing cache of fresh fruit and vegetables to residents in the area. It was a great community event and a fun way to engage with our partner!

City Harvest exists to end hunger in communities throughout New York City. They do this through food rescue and distribution, education, and other practical, innovative solutions.

Now serving New York City for more than 30 years, City Harvest is the world's first food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding the city's hungry men, women and children.

This year, City Harvest will collect 50 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers, and farms. The food is then delivered free of charge to more than 500 community food programs throughout the city using a fleet of trucks and bikes. City Harvest helps feed the nearly two million New Yorkers facing hunger each year.

About 600 attendees participate at each event, with regular users reporting that they receive 30-50% of their recommended daily allowance of fruits and vegetables from City Harvest.
