NewVoiceMedia Rises to 3 Peaks Challenge

This article was published on May 26, 2020

Three NewVoiceMedia employees have conquered the National 3 Peaks Challenge – climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland within 24 hours – to raise over £5,000 for CALM and MIND.

Jo Wright, Emily Wood and Richard MacCaw scaled Ben Nevis (1344m) in Scotland, Scafell Pike (987m) in England and Snowdon (1085m) in Wales, to raise money for the charities. CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)’s main goal is to reduce male suicide rates in the UK, and MIND is the UK’s largest mental health charity.

Jo said, “We’d read the books, talked to experienced climbers and chatted to a physio so we knew how important training was going to be if we were to complete the challenge within 24 hours. With that in mind, Emily and I did some practice walks and Ricky joined the gym. It did prove to be a tough challenge, and we learnt that freeze gel is a walker’s best friend, we had to limit our enjoyment of the views and time at each summit in order to complete the three peaks in 24 hours, and realised we had to speed up the ascents but be steady on the descents to avoid any injuries”.

The team managed the following times:

Ben Nevis = 5 hr 27 minutes

Scafell Pike = 3 hr 40 minutes

Snowdon = 3 hr 49 minutes

Total climb time = 12 hr 56 minutes. Challenge completed in 23 hours, 14 minutes.

The challenge was supported by the NewVoiceMedia Foundation. Find out more, here.
